The Independent Redress Mechanism (IRM) Unit of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) hereby invites Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to submit proposals to reinforce the Independent Redress Mechanism’s (IRM) presence at the grassroots level and raise awareness about its mission, and values in Latin America and Africa in order to assist with communications and outreach with key audiences.
CSOs should be working in the fields of climate change, human rights and/or access to justice. The CSO should have experience enhancing accountability, conducting communication activities and engaging with the IRM’s key audiences.
Objectives
- Regional CSOs working on climate change, human rights and/or access to justice.
- Local formal and non-formal organisations close to GCF project sites, including, neighbourhood associations, community networks, business associations, formal and informal education centres, community centres, etc.
- Local activists and advocates in climate change, human rights or similar, working close to project sites.
- Neighbours and people (including indigenous people) working or living close to project sites.
- Local media and journalists from radio, TV, print outlets, etc.
Scope of the Assignment
- CSOs are encouraged to come up with their own set of activities that are the most relevant to reach key audiences in their country/region. CSOs are expected to target audiences in their own country and are encouraged to extend outreach activities to neighbouring countries. Examples of outreach activities could include:
- Creation of paid ads on social media
- Organisation of virtual or in-person workshops/webinars
- Distribution of printed or digital materials (brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, etc.)
- Creation of public billboards or other advertisements.
Funding Information
- A grant of USD 3,000 will be awarded to each CSO.
- Duration: Activities should be carried out between July (tentatively) and December 2023.
Qualifications
- The CSO
- The CSO should have experience enhancing accountability, conducting communication activities and engaging with the IRM’s key audiences. The CSO should also be based in Latin America or Africa.
- The Personnel
- The CSO is encouraged to have at least one communications/outreach specialist who will be in charge of implementing the activities outlined. The communications or outreach specialist should have the following experience:
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience in communications and/or outreach
- Proven experience working with local communities.
- Strong understanding of how to adapt strategic communications approaches to local audiences.
- The CSO is encouraged to have at least one communications/outreach specialist who will be in charge of implementing the activities outlined. The communications or outreach specialist should have the following experience:
Eligibility Criteria
- CSOs in Latin America and Africa who have previously worked with the IRM, as well as CSO observers of the GCF may apply. The four Active Observers and Accredited Entities are not eligible.
- At least one CSO will be selected from Latin America and one from Africa. CSOs should be located in the country/region where they will perform activities.
