Protection Supervisor (Local Position)
COUNTRY PROGRAM BACKGROUND:
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
International Medical Corps has been present in Cameroon since 2008 to provide assistance to thousands of CAR refugees who have crossed the bordered sheltered in Cameroon as a consequence of the political and social troubles which occurred in CAR since 2005. International Medical Corps is providing essential health and nutrition care to more than 75 000 Nigerian Refugees in the Minawao refugee Camp in the Far North Region according to last data from HCR and its parteners .
Missions and Responsibilities
Main objective
In close collaboration with the Project team, the Protection Supervisor contributes under the responsibility of the Project Manager, to ensure the technical supervision of the project activities, in particular: Strengthen the capacities of local and community organizations to prevent and respond to GBV, especially child marriage; Ensure the mitigation of the risks of child marriage through the socio-economic empowerment of out of school girls at risk.
Responsibilities
- Specific tasks:
• Provide oversight and monitor Protection activities by ensuring compliance of program activities in accordance with international standards and best practices as well as grant requirements;
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to IMC staff to ensure compliance with minimum standards for clinical care and GBV guiding principles for survivors;
• Coordinate and supervise training on GBV principles, basic psychosocial support, case management and referral pathways for staff, partners, community volunteers as well as service providers;
• Oversee the implementation of GBV response and prevention activities to ensure targets are duly met;
• Train CPFF, listening centers, WGSS, CMPJ, CSOs, CBO, LPC and women’s association on GBV core concepts GBV sensitization techniques for behavior change, advocacy techniques with precision on child marriage, Case management, including referral and documentation;
• Supervise activities within CPFFs community listening centers, CMPJ, CSOs, CBOs, LPC, WGSS and women association identified and suggest the ways of improvement;
• Support CMPJ, CPFF, CBOs and women association to carry out sensitization in community on Child marriage related topics and PSEA
• Ensure GBV case data is managed, shared, and used in a confidential, safe, and effective manner, including through the GBVIMS, the referral pathways with other sectors/services, and updating service mapping on monthly basis;
• Ensure appropriate care for GBV survivors and monitor especially vulnerable cases;
• Coordinate and build the capacity of local actors to sustain a functioning network focused on gender activities, to sustain GBV awareness and advocacy;
• Carry out regular field visits to support field teams;
• Management of project resources;
• Management of procurement.
- Education, experience and skills
Education
• University Level (Bac+3) in Social sciences, Public Health, Gender studies, Sociology, International Development or other relevant field of study preferred;
Experience
• At least three years of field experience, including experience in GBV program management in emergency settings;
• Proven knowledge and experience in developing and implementing community mobilization projects;
• Demonstrated experience working with government stakeholders, implementing partners, Community-based Organizations (CBOs) and other stakeholders;
• Experience in managing emergency and/or development projects and in Behavior Change Communication (BCC).
Skills
• Good knowledge of transversal protection
• Good knowledge in the field of participatory development approaches
• Good knowledge of plant and animal production
• Skills / Attitudes:
o Great capacity for human contact, diplomacy, self-control, interest in cultural differences, availability, flexibility, ability and motivation to work in a team, ability to manage stress and to live in an isolated context, diligence, tenacity, determination, integrity, adaptability, sense of initiative, ease of communication, sense of responsibility, respect for the framework and teamwork.
o Autonomy, Initiative and Knowledge of the area of intervention
• Hold a motorcycle driving license, category A (compulsory).
Language
• Proficiency in the local language,
• Fluency in French and English (written and spoken)

- Consider security implications of all program activities, reviewing all new initiatives with others staffs and community leaders and community volunteers.
