Finance Intern
Location: Yaoundé, Cameroon
Contract: 12 month Internship
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week

About the role
Sightsavers is looking for a Finance Intern to work directly with finance and programme teams during the internship period and will gain experience in financial management within an INGO. As the Intern you will work with the team to provide finance management support for the Country Office in accordance with Sightsavers policies, donor requirements, and generally accepted accounting principles.
Overview
As the Finance Intern your experience and knowledge will be developed across the following duties:
- Processing vouchers and journals into the finance system daily, for validation and posting into the general ledger.
- Prepare vouchers for bank and cash payments, ensure completeness and correctness of documents before any payment is made.
- Conduct petty cash and bank reconciliations, including surprised cash counts.
- Prepare cheques and maintain the cheque register.
- Handle documentation, filling/archiving of documents in appropriate storage filling methods.
- Scan financial vouchers on monthly basis.
- Process payment to vendors, per diem and transportation for participants during field activities.
- Track and follow up on all outstanding advances to ensure timely retirement.
- Participate in the review of partners financial reports.
- Participle in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for Country office.
- Handle logistics for activity preparation and travels.
- Follow up receipts from Suppliers in collaboration with the Administrative Assistant.
- Undertake any other tasks as assigned by the finance team.
About you
This is an ideal opportunity to gain valuable finance experience within an INGO. To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A degree in Finance/Accounting, Business Administration, or the equivalent of the professional qualification in accounting.
- Strong written and spoken English and French skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Computer literate (MS word & excel and other accounting software is an asset).
