Overview
To provide leadership on forestry research in central Africa and promote impact of CIFOR-ICRAF work on decision making and practices related to the management of forest ecosystems of the Congo Basin. Act as deputy to the country coordinator.
Summary of responsibilities
- Project management, including budgeting, expenditure management, reporting, supervision of project staff: lead the management of projects with an aggregated budget of more than EUR 15 million (RESSAC, OFAC-CE and CAFI Congo)
- Leadership role in Science-Policy dialogue: provide leadership to the scientific and academic college of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP), the Network for Forestry Research in central Africa (R2FAC) and the Congo Basin Science Initiative.
- Leadership role in the promotion of impact of CIFOR-ICRAF research in multiple countries: Interact with governments and regional bodies in charge of forest policy and decision making to improve the management of forest ecosystems in central Africa.
- Produce scientific and policy publications to advance African and tropical forest ecosystems management.
- Fund raising: lead the development of proposals.
Requirements
- PhD in forestry or related fields.
- At least 15 years of research-development experience in the domain of sustainable forest and natural resource management in Central Africa.
- At least 5 years’ experience in project management, including financial management, partner relations and supervision of staff.
Personal attributes and competencies:
- Networking capacity.
- Capacity to interact with policy makers and private sector.
- Proven capacity in proposal writing and fundraising.
- Capacity to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Track record of leading cross-regional activities for disseminating research outcomes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both French and English.
- Record of scientific publications.
