Nurse (based in Akwaja – Northwest Region)

1. Hospital functions:

  • Provide inpatient care at the health centers
  • Perform patient intake and assessment, which includes measuring patient health and wellness, both through direct observation and by conducting medical tests and evaluations.
  • Participate in routine vaccination activities under the enlarged program of immunization at the health center.
  • Educate patients and the general public on disease management, special diet plans and medical conditions
  • Provide information on home care after their treatment and teach individuals how to self-administer medication or complete other self-care tasks.
  • Aid patients from the moment they enter the clinic by collecting patient information, supporting patient evaluation, administering treatments and medications as needed, and educating patients.
  • Asks patients questions about current symptoms, medical histories, and medications to provide the current medical needs and background
  • Conduct preliminary tests such as blood pressure and respiratory checks
  • Change the dressing on a wound, apply topical treatments, or administer medication via intravenous methods or direct injection
  • Follow up with patients to determine whether course of treatment are effective and assess patients during follow-up appointment.
  • Maintain clear communication with all other health post staff regarding the status of beneficiaries.
  • Offer practical advice and education to the new arrivals on the key issues of Health
  • Be flexible and adaptable with regards to the implementation of the daily work.
  • Provide direct care to patients, including administering medication or treatments
  • Ensure effective referrals and counter-referrals from the health post to the points of higher care, laying emphasis on feedback mechanisms that involve the health evolution of the patient, follow-up on hospital bills and transport reimbursement.

2. Capacity building of health professionals.

  • Contribute to the improvement of project performance indicators through the organization of formative and routine health talks and weekly staff capacity building sessions on health topics peculiar to the health post.

3. Follow up of drugs and medical consumables

  • Monitor the use of drugs, medical consumables and project equipment at the health facilities, ensuring that the fore mentioned get to the beneficiaries
  • Ensure that drugs and medical consumables are available and in good state at the health facilities supported by the project under the supervision of the pharmacist.

4. Community health.

  • Supervise the community health workers, capacitate them with respect to the identification, referral and community-based management of disease conditions like malaria, diarrhea and upper respiratory tract infections.
  • Support the health district in the implementation of mass vaccination campaigns organized in the health district.

5. Reporting of project activities

  • Ensure that the Medical Team Leader receives all the statistics for the weekly/monthly reports and other field project activities promptly;
  • Ensure that health data collected and shared with the project team is in accordance with that shared by and with the District at the Regional level
  • Provide solutions and proposals to the project team with respect to measures that will improve the performance of project indicators

Required Qualifications

Requirements:

Education:

Diploma of Nursing or Diplomas from MOH- recognized institutions.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one-year experience in the same position;
  • Experience working with NGO and supporting the health system in Cameroon, is an additional advantage;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and local language, Pidgin English will be a plus)
  • Strong ability to think and plan strategically
  • Computer proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel is a prerequisite.

Qualifications:

  • Justified one-year professional experience in the same context like the one in the North West, preferably with an NGO
  • Master the office software (Microsoft Office);
  • Good ability to work in a multiethnic environment;
  • Being Cameroonian nationality.

Communication skills: Should be able to speak the local community language + English language would be advantage.

  • Consider security implications of all program activities, reviewing all new initiatives with others staffs and community leaders and community volunteers.
