STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Masterâs degree in Engineering or related discipline, or Bachelorâs degree with relevant additional years of experience. Language: International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of French, and/or WFPâs working language.
National Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty stationâs language, if different.
JOB PURPOSE
As the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger, WFP is continually responding to emergencies. WFP Cameroon is currently engaged in a large-scale response to ongoing humanitarian crises, working to reach hundreds of thousands of people affected by violence each month. Concerned about the increasing needs, WFP provides food assistance to displaced and vulnerable communities in an extremely challenging environment where humanitarian operations are hampered by conflict and the risk of attacks on humanitarian workers. In this context, WFP Cameroon aims to rehabilitate and extend its facilities at Country Office (CO) and Field Offices (FO) level in order to guarantee a safe and appropriate working environment for staff. The planned rehabilitation and extension works will involve refurbishment and / or upgrading of the existing electrical systems which requires expertise of an electrical engineer who will be responsible for all the electrical works during all phases of the rehabilitation / construction. In addition, the âin-houseâ Electrical Engineer will be tasked with repairs and maintenance of the electrical systems at Country Office and Field Offices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Provide engineering services for the renovation and construction projects, preparing budgets and technical specifications for all site related works (including visits to field locations for technical guidance and support).
- Support the CO Architect in the supervision, programming, and coordination of the construction and refurbishment works.
- Supervise other staff assigned to the projects, such as the Electrical Engineer etc.
- Support the development of architectural plans, technical scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules and construction contract documentation reflecting site specific constraints, local conditions, or characteristics.
- Manage and conduct analyses of project proposals to ensure business case and technical feasibility and that project objectives are attainable within prescribed resources.
- Prepare scope of works and tender documents, project bills of quantities (BoQs), cost estimates and develop work specifications for the implementation of the works.
- Provide technical support to ensure the application and compliance of WFP corporate policies and procedures related to facility management, procurement, construction activities and engineering services, and any other as deemed applicable for the projectâs implementation, to ensure that outputs meet the established quality standards.
- Address Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) issues, especially related to firefighting aspects and escape routes arrangements (internal circulation, signage, emergency exits, firefighting systems such as extinguishers, etc., and fire-prevention systems, such smoke detectors, etc.).
- Any other engineering support and advice required to meet the Client needs have been provided in a timely and professional manner.
