The Social Fiction Design Competition invites visionaries and dreamers all over the world with a knack for creative writing to share how they wish to see the world and the lives of young people in the year 2050.

This is a global platform encouraging Social Fiction to imagine a world they want to live in, a world free of social and environmental injustices that plague the communities. And it all starts with the imagination.

Social Fiction is a creative and imaginative idea. Social Fiction relates to creating ideas, thoughts or processes that affect the social context. If they start thinking about social fiction, like science fiction, they will trigger social innovation that will help them create the economy, the society and the world they want to live in. If they imagine it, one day reality will follow.

The Social Fiction Design Competition is looking for innovative and thought-provoking social fiction that will open the minds to give a fresh perspective on how they can operate in a transformative, sustainable and equitable world.

Themes: The theme of the Social Fiction Design Competition is: “Imagine the Life of a Young Person in the World of 2050.”

What focus areas can my Social Fiction address?

  • The first step to writing your Social Fiction is to imagine the life of a young person in the world of 2050. What kind of world do you wish to see in the year 2050?
  • Once you have imagined, identify what kind of Social or Environmental issues are you addressing in this world you wish to create. This Social Fiction can address one or more of the following focus areas:
  • They also welcome topics beyond the mentioned focus areas. Please specify when filling up the online application form.

Criteria

  • Think fun, Think innovative. Be optimistic.
    • In min 1000 – max 5000 words, write a Social Fiction, taking the readers on a tour of what this fictional world in 2050 looks like.
