Research Coordinator NTD

Location: Cameroon/Senegal/Cote d’Ivoire/Burkina Faso Contract: Fixed Term Contract

Purpose of role as Research Coordinator

Providing technical, administrative and logistical support to studies in West and Central Africa, as and when required. Conducting research covering neglected tropical diseases, NTDs, qualitative research and surveys covering entomology and epidemiology.

About the role of Research Coordinator

Working with multiple teams internally and externally to facilitate the implementation of research that adheres to international quality standards.

Responsibilities cover but are not limited to:

  • Leading on certain projects, coordinating the development of workplans, coordinating aspects of collaborative research, delivering activities as planned.
  • Verifying and obtaining relevant documentation including contracts, ethical clearance and administrative sign off
  • Experience of working in partnership with academic institutions, laboratories and Ministries of Health
  • Developing field guides, data collection and supervision tools based on existing versions and protocols
  • Recruitment and day to day management of data collectors and study participants
  • Supporting qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Sharing research findings through reports, peer-reviewed publications, targeted blogs, and presentations
  • Developing new research proposals in collaboration with in-country programme teams and Sightsavers Research teams and other national and international partners.

Knowledge, skills and experience for Research Coordinator

Essential:

  • In depth knowledge of the transmission, biology and control of NTDs
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of conducting and managing Neglected Tropical Disease research
  • Understanding of key principles and governance of research and ethical principles particularly in relation to research with vulnerable people including children
  • Experience of working in partnership with academic institutions, laboratories and Ministries of Health
  • Knowledge and experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Proven experience working in rural environment in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Strong data management
  • Excellent communication and organisation
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French
  • Availability to travel to and work in remote rural locations of sub-Saharan Africa

Desirable:

  • MPH or equivalent in practical training and experience
