Nominations are now open for the BIM Africa Innovation Awards 2023 to recognize the talents and efforts of leading industry professionals and organizations in the construction sector going above and beyond to deploy innovative solutions towards Africa’s Development.

The growing demand for critical infrastructure to meet the need of a rapidly rising population and boost economic growth across the African continent has necessitated the need for a paradigm shift in the construction project delivery approach via the integration of digital and innovative technologies.

As a pan-African multidisciplinary network of BIM experts and enthusiasts, BIM Africa (the “Sponsor”) is aligned to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through fostering innovation, sustainable infrastructure, and urban development to drive Africa’s economic growth.

Award Categories
  • Academic Rising Star: Exceptional students of African descent undergoing study in an AECO academic program having an outstanding research project, educational projects, assignment, and/or engagements involving the use or advocacy of digital technologies or processes. Groups or teams can be nominated as an entity.
  • Research Excellence Award: Exceptional Individuals of African descent in Academia (or a Research Team/Project) that have developed and completed research works involving the deployment of innovative digital technologies and processes towards driving the building and infrastructure Industry’s transformation.
  • Green Hat Award: Exceptional Individual of African descent with outstanding achievements, and remarkable service to advocating the adoption of BIM and digital technologies across Africa.
  • Best Woman in African Construction: Exceptional woman of African descent with outstanding performance, amazing feats, and/or immense contribution to the growth of the African construction Industry’s growth.
  • Innovation in Built Environment: Exceptional Projects or Firms in an African country with a result-backed record of deploying the innovative use of digital design processes and systems
  • Lifestyle & Asset Management Awards: Exceptional Projects or Firms in an African country with a result-backed record of deploying innovation and the use of digital technologies and processes in Facility Management and/or Asset Management of building operations not less than 5 years post-construction.
  • Institutional Award: Exceptional institution in an African country with a result-backed record of promoting, developing, and implementing policies, strategies, and programs to widen the uptake of digital technologies in the built environment. For example, an institution that has developed an outstanding MSc program. Another example can be a government department that has proposed policies for BIM adoption.
  • Outstanding Startup Awards: Exceptional Firms in an African country established less than 5 years and operating within the building and infrastructure Industry with a result-backed record of an outstanding business product (software, hardware, service, equipment etc).
  • Automation Awards: Exceptional projects or applications that have explored coding in BIM, machine learning, code nodes for visual programming or plugins that were very helpful in the everyday processes in a construction project in Africa.
Award Rules
  • Nomination for the Award is open to individuals, groups, project teams, start-ups, small or large corporate institution, students, and professionals across the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) industry.
  • For Award categories related to Organisations: Entries will be accepted from organisations with an office in any African country.
  • For Award categories related to Projects awards: Entries will be accepted for projects based in an African country.
  • For Award categories related to Individuals awards: Entries will be accepted for individuals having all of their nominating engagements in any African country.
  • Entries will be accepted from project owners, developers, construction consultants, contractors, architecture, engineering firms and relevant start-ups.
  • Any authorised person from within an organisation can nominate the company, a project, or an individual or themselves.
  • Recent mergers or re-organisations will not be accepted for Entries related to the Outstanding Startup Award category. Entries must be established less than Five (5) years and operating within the building and infrastructure Industry.
