Grant Opportunities: Desertif’actions 2022 Press Cartoon Competition Now Open

0

Deadline: 20-Aug-22

The “Lands and Droughts” press cartoon competition, organized as part of DĂ©sertif’actions 2022 in partnership with France Cartoons and Cartooning for Peace, has been launched.

The international press cartoon competition “Lands and Droughts” took the prism of droughts to better illustrate the role and place of land and soils in the functioning of the terrestrial ecosystem, climate regulation, food security, the maintenance of the biodiversity of living organisms and, in general, in all terrestrial life and its well-being.

Droughts, their impacts and their treatment, exposes the form of unconsciousness, indifference and even contempt shown by humanity for the earth and soils. However, warming temperatures, loss of biodiversity, food insecurity and many other threats, all linked to the continuous degradation of land, have taken a worrying turn, which at the same time increases inequalities and poverty and threatens the future of human societies.

The winner of the first prize will be invited to France in Montpellier during the DĂ©sertif’actions 2022 event from October 05 to 08, 2022. The prize and a dedicated creation will be handed over.

Thematic Areas
  • For his 4th drawing competition, the organizers of DĂ©sertif’actions 2022 wanted to deal with a subject that is extremely topical in both southern and northern countries: “land and drought”. This theme follows “the earth makes its climate” in Montpellier in 2015, “land and climate, the time to act” in Strasbourg in 2017 and “draw me the Great Green Wall” in Ouagadougou in 2019.
  • Through humor, derision, irony or enthusiasm, as only a drawing can do, it is a question of highlighting all the paradoxes, inconsistencies, ignorance, leaks, contempt or human arrogance expressed by the treatment that is subjected to land and soil in urban and rural areas. But also all the hopes , commitments, courage, initiatives and solutions such as agroecology, which constitute so many seeds of a change already underway for a viable land and future.
Award Information

The prizes awarded by the organizers are as follows:

  • First prize: 1500 euros offered by the United Nations Convention for the Fight against the desertification
  • Second prize: 750 euros offered by the organizers of DA22
Eligibility Criteria
  • The competition is open to any cartoonist or cartoonist from any country who has published at least one cartoon in the press since June 2021. Each cartoonist can submit only two cartoons, in black and white or in color.
  • The jury will be chaired by a personality from the world of the arts and the press and composed of 7 people with different skills on the theme of the competition, the field of press cartoons and the organizers of DĂ©sertif’actions 2022.

Grant Opportunities: UNESCO: Patrimonito Storyboard Competition 2022 for Young People

0

Deadline: 30-Sep-22

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) World Heritage Centre is pleased to launch the 2022 edition of the Patrimonito Storyboard Competition.

This competition aims to provide young people with an opportunity to use their creative and problem-solving skills to raise awareness about World Heritage sites. The World Heritage Education Programme is welcoming secondary school pupils and youth to create storyboards on the theme of Climate Change and World Heritage. The best submission will be selected by an independent jury and professionally produced into animated films for global distribution to schools and at World Heritage education events.

Themes
  • World Heritage
  • Climate Change
Eligibility Criteria
  • The Patrimonito storyboard competition is open to young people from all over the world aged between 12 and 18 years old.
  • The artworks must be created solely by the participant(s), either by hand or using digital drawing tools. In either case, the scanned copies must be submitted by email OR the original copies (in case of hand-drawn entries) or the print versions (in case of digital artworks) must be submitted by postal mail to UNESCO. Participants may also choose to submit their entries through their countries’ National Commissions for UNESCO.
How to Participate
  • Storyboard creation
    • Preparing a storyboard is like drawing a comic book. It is a script that presents a story through sketches in chronological sequence. Usually, a storyboard is drawn in pencil, ink, or through digital drawing tools. The images or visual illustrations of the story are portrayed using a series of frames.
    • The story and drawing should reflect:
      • the participant’s knowledge of the World Heritage site they have chosen and the exceptional value of the site.
      • a challenge/problem faced by the site based on the impacts of Climate Change
      • the solution or measures proposed by the participant to the challenge/problem.
    • Blank storyboard worksheets should be used for drawing cartoons. The worksheets give the participants a series of frames that will show the development of the action or story.
Structure of the storyboard
  • Participants should reflect on the story they would like to convey to the audience on the theme of Climate Change. Patrimonito should play one of the main roles among the characters, and there should ideally be two more main characters – a young girl and a boy.
  • The script will need ‘shape’ – this means it needs a beginning, middle, and an end.
    • Beginning: The participants should set up stories and characters in relation to the selected World Heritage site.
    • Middle: This is the backbone of the story. Here, they should present the obstacles or problems that the characters must overcome; or perhaps if there were no obstacles, an interesting journey, or a series of coincidences that they experienced. Participants should communicate the main message in this section.
    • End: This is the conclusion of the story where everything should fall together, depicting how the problem should be resolved in the participant’s view, and giving the end of the story.
  • Participants should balance the presentation of the story. They should consider the number of frames devoted to the description of the site, to the issue confronted by the site, and to the solution they propose.

Contract

This is a Consultancy contract. More about Consultancy contracts.

,

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, a chance in life!
