Grant Opportunities: Faena Prize for the Arts: A Chance to Win $100,000

Nominations are now open for the Faena Prize that invite artists across genres, disciplines, and technologies to imagine temporary and site-specific projects to be installed at the Faena Beach.

This new edition of the Faena Prize for the Arts will take place for the first time in Miami, a city that has been home to Faena Art’s programming for the past five years.

Prize Details

The winning proposal will receive a US $100,000 prize – US $25,000 in unrestricted funds will be awarded directly to the artist, and the remaining US $75,000 will be allocated towards the production of the new commission to be installed temporarily at the Faena Beach during Miami Art Week 2022.

Eligibility Criteria
  • They invite artists to envision site-specific monumental projects for the Faena Beach that are in conversation with the ideas mentioned above and that align with Faena Art’s mission.
  • The Jury of the 2022 Faena Prize for the Arts will include Cecilia Alemani (Curator of the 59th Venice Biennale); artist Alexandre Arrechea; Caroline Bourgeois (Chief Curator of the Pinault Collection); cultural place-maker Ximena Caminos; Chus MartĂ­nez (Director Art Institute at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design, Basel); and JosĂ© Roca (Artistic Director 23rd Biennale of Sydney).
  • Artists from different fields and/or disciplines are invited to present projects: installations, performances, paintings, sculptures, photographs, works that include design and architecture, film or video pieces, technologies, etc.
  • All individuals over the age of 18 are eligible to apply. Entries will be accepted from emerging, mid-to-late career and established artists, regardless of national origin or citizenship.
  • Individuals and art collectives may apply. Individual artists who are members of a collective may also present their own individual entry. The Faena Prize competition is limited to one entry per artist or collective.
  • Employees, officers, directors, and agents of FAENA ART, as well as its affiliate companies and subsidiaries, are not eligible. Previous winners, present jurors, or members of the Nominating Committee are not eligible.
  • Faena Art invites international artists across disciplines to submit proposals for the Faena Prize, considered one of the most prestigious prizes in the Americas.

Grant Opportunities: UN Foundation launches Thomas Lovejoy Memorial Press Fellowship

The United Nations Foundation has announced a press fellowship that will bring a group of journalists to the heart of the Amazon to explore issues of biodiversity, deforestation, and sustainable development.

The trip will take place the week of October 17, 2022 against the backdrop of a national election to determine Brazil’s next president, just three weeks ahead of COP27, and two months before the Biodiversity COP in December. Funding for this press fellowship was made possible by a grant from the McGovern Foundation.

The Fellowship is named after the late Dr. Thomas Lovejoy, the renowned ecologist and Senior Fellow for the UN Foundation who first popularized the term “biodiversity.” Ten journalists will travel to Manaus, Brazil before spending three days at the remote research station in the Amazon, known as Camp 41, where they will have the opportunity to take guided tours of the world’s largest rainforest.

  • Selected reporters will travel to the Amazon’s longest-running biodiversity research project to examine the effects of climate change firsthand.

Participating journalists will be expected to publish between two to four stories on the topics covered within six months of the fellowship’s conclusion.

Entries are now open for the Young Journalist Award. It has given a boost to some brilliant journalists over the years, each one of them demonstrating a rich tapestry of investigative journalism, exposing social issues and holding power to account.

The Thomson Foundation is celebrating 60 years of promoting excellence in journalism and to mark the occasion they are offering six rising stars the chance to connect with six of the best journalists in the industry as part of the prestigious Young Journalist Award 2022.

This year’s award will be extra special for another reason, too. It will be the first time in two years that their three finalists will be able to attend the glittering ceremony in London in person. The pandemic of the past two years has meant finalists could only attend virtually.

  • The three Young Journalist Award finalists will automatically qualify for the mentorship programme. The additional three will be selected from the shortlist of 12 to join them as part of their ongoing investment into ethical, independent and trusted journalism.
  • If you are one of the selected six, you’ll be provided with a unique package of support and paired with an established journalist matched to your region from their extensive alumni network. You’ll learn from them how their exclusives and investigations have changed the world, and how yours can too.
  • In addition, all 12 journalists in the shortlist will be given space on the official website and social media channels and receive a certificate from Thomson Foundation commending them on the high standard of their work.

The United Nations Development Programme Sub-Regional Hub for West and Central Africa (UNDP WACA) has launched the 2022 UNDP WACA Youth Innovation Challenge calling for young entrepreneurs and innovators with impactful solutions in West and Central Africa.

The UNDP WACA Youth Innovation Challenge is an initiative designed to identify and support the transformative innovations and resilience of young people from West and Central Africa. It follows the 2021 inaugural edition – Sahel Innovate Challenge – which provided 10 youth from across the Sahel Region with funding ranging from $1,000 – $20,000 to bolster their innovations.

  • 5 finalists will be fully funded to participate and pitch their solutions at the 2022 YouthConnekt Sahel Forum in N’Djamena, Chad and win funding of up to $50,000 (total award envelope to be awarded to the top 5 innovators).

  • Recording should be done in a quiet place with no music or background noise (Listen to your audio before uploading the video and ensure you are audible).
  • The video should answer the question: What is the impact of your solution in your community, and what is its value and potential?
  • Keep the camera in a still position to avoid a shaky recording.
  • Ensure the picture quality of your video is clear.
  • Videos should be shot in “landscape/widescreen” mode.
  • Recording should not exceed 2 minutes and can be recorded in English, French, or Portuguese.

The objective of this initiative is to provide capacity-building for young women-led organizations to strengthen their fundraising skills, and to create a space for peer exchange, networking, sharing of best practices, and lessons learned among young women peacebuilders.

  • A 4-day, in-person workshop will be held in November 2022 in Tbilisi, Georgia. You will learn about:
    • Key policy areas such as peacebuilding and sustaining peace, the women, peace, and security (WPS) and the youth, peace, and security (YPS) agendas;
    • Key project management skills: designing and drafting project proposals (including conflict analysis, theory of change, logical frameworks), fundraising, donor outreach, and reporting.

Grant Opportunities: PTES Conservation Insight Grants (ÂŁ3,000 and ÂŁ10,000 per annum)

PTES is now accepting new grant applications for Conservation Insight Grants are for projects focusing on endangered species.

They have awarded grants to scientific researchers and conservationists for many years for work that is aimed at the preservation of endangered species around the world.

Funds will be awarded for work that seeks to either:

  • Find the critical scientific evidence that will facilitate the conservation of a species
  • Provide the answer to a key conservation question, which will enable conservationists to undertake critical conservation action
  • Undertake the implementation of a key local action which will result in a significantly, positive impact for an endangered species

Priorities

High priority projects include:

  • Gathering evidence needed to undertake necessary mitigation work
  • Using scientific evidence to get changes made to local, national or international policy
  • Devising and testing a new methodology for monitoring a species or group of species
  • Priority is also given to applications for conservation and research work on species classified as endangered, critically endangered and extinct in the wild by the IUCN.

Funding Information

Applicants may apply for grants of between ÂŁ3,000 and ÂŁ10,000 per annum, up to a maximum total of ÂŁ20,000

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants are welcomed from scientific researchers and those working in the field of practical conservation. The project leader should be based either within an NGO or a university research department.
  • These grants are suitable for research or conservation projects that focus on one or more endangered species, or their habitat.
  • Priority will be given to projects working on those species classified by the IUCN redlist as endangered, critically endangered and extinct in the wild. However applications for work on species listed as vulnerable and near-threatened will also be considered.
  • Applications will only be considered from those working in countries classified by the World Bank as low and middle-income
  • Preference is given to applicants working in their own country rather than UK or other western nationals working abroad.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have a proven, successful history working on the species and/or in that region.
  • The project should be up to two years in duration.
  • The project should have a clear end point. If aspects of a project are likely to continue over the long-term, the applicant should make clear how they will be funded.
  • The Trust will consider funding a project in its entirety or jointly with other bodies or organizations

Eligible Projects

The Loyola Foundation approved 100 grants to benefit Catholic activities worldwide. Projects included:

  • Installation of solar power plants and water wells.
  • Construction of churches, seminaries, convents, meeting halls, schools, and health clinics.
  • Purchase of books, computers, medical equipment and vehicles.
Criteria
  • For a construction or renovation project, a blueprint and professional cost estimate, prepared by a local contractor, as well as pro forma invoices for required materials and photographs of the project in its current state, as applicable.
  • For the purchase of equipment or a vehicle, a pro forma statement quoting the cost of the vehicle or equipment, prepared by a local dealership.
  • The written approval of the local diocesan ordinary, with his raised imprint seal affixed. This letter must specify that the ordinary has reviewed and approved the specific project.
  • Please note: Applicants must fill out the application and submit all supporting materials and correspondence in English.

UNOPS invites interested and eligible applicants to join an exceptional 2022 application exercise related to the Scaling up Nutrition (SUN) Pooled Fund 2.0 extension period covering the period of July – December 2022.

The SUN Movement has successfully brought together governments, United Nations agencies, businesses, donors, civil society organizations and individuals in a collective mission in 65 countries and 4 Indian States to uphold the right to good food and nutrition. It has also helped to illuminate the importance of nutrition in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SUN Movement continues to work with countries with the belief that Nutrition is both a maker and a marker of development. Improved nutrition is the platform for progress in health, education, employment, empowerment of women and the reduction of poverty and inequality, and can lay the foundation for peaceful, secure and stable societies.

Objectives

The Pooled Fund is coherent with the SUN Movement stewardship arrangements and processes at national and global levels. In particular, the Pooled Fund will support civil society organizations and alliances through actions which reinforce in-country capabilities of all stakeholders in SUN Countries across four thematic areas:

  • Continuously improve country planning to end malnutrition.
  • Mobilise, advocate and communicate for impact.
  • Strengthen capacity of government and non-governmental systems, multi-sectoral teams, and their individual members, for scaled-up nutrition action at all levels.
  • Ensure equity, equality and non-discrimination for all, with women and girls at the centre of efforts.
