Grant Opportunities: Open Call for Youth Excel Photo Contest 2022

Are you a young changemaker between 15-35 years old? Do you have photography skills? Do you want to showcase your photography skills with the world? USAID’s Youth Excel program is launching a 6-week global photo competition to encourage young people from Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Middle East and North Africa to share images reflecting five main themes.

Participation in the Youth Excel’s photo contest authorizes IREX, USAID and the Youth Excel program to use the winning images on the IREX website and other communication channels for IREX and Youth Excel such as social media, publications, collateral and more. Other entries may also be used by the Youth Excel program and USAID.

Themes
  • Youth mental health and wellness: Photos that represent how your community is working towards supporting youth mental health
  • Youth at the forefront of economic development: Photos that represent how youth in your community are engaged in creating employment/employability for fellow youth
  • Youth and decision-makers at work: Photos showcasing youth in your community working with diverse stakeholders to create locally led community solutions
  • Youth driving decisions through data: Photos that highlight trends or instances of youth in your community using research and data to solve local issues
  • Gender and Inclusion: Photos showing marginalized youth (youth with disabilities, young women and girls, religious minorities, LGBTQI+, Indigenous youth, minority ethnicities etc.) positively participating in community development
Prize Information

First place winner from each theme will receive a special prize valued at USD $200-$300.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Young changemakers between 15-35 years old from Africa, Asia, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Middle East and North Africa.
  • Photos must be an original submission. The submitter must own the rights to the photo (i.e. the photo needs to be submitted by the photographer or with permission from the photographer and have permission to use all identifiable people, buildings, objects, etc.).
  • Applicants have limited five photos per entry. Multiple entries are allowed.
  • Each image submitted must focus on a particular theme of the competition.
  • Photos can be taken with a camera or mobile phone.
  • Photos should be submitted in JPEG format with a minimum 1MB file size.
  • Tell us about your photo by including a brief description explaining the context of the photo, where and when it was taken.
  • DO NOT submit photos with watermarks, overlays or signatures.
  • Winning photos will be added to Youth Excel’s stock photos and used in future communications material.
  • By submitting an entry, all participants agree that their images may be used by the Youth Excel program including IREX, consortium partners and USAID in future communications material. Proper photo credit will be given to photographers of selected images.

MCD is currently seeking candidates to serve as the Chief of Party (Project Director) for the anticipated, five-year USAID-funded Cameroon President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Bilateral Project. The Project seeks to improve access to timely, quality, and well-documented malaria testing and treatment by providing community health workers with training and supervision to provide quality, effective care.

The Chief of Party (COP) has overall responsibility to lead and manage the Project and is accountable for all Project deliverables and results, with full accountability and authority for the development, execution, and monitoring of the Project including: vision and technical strategy; project management; documentation and communication; client and stakeholder relationships; and coordination and synergy with other MCD projects.

This is a key position on the project team and is contingent upon award to MCD.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide overall leadership, strategic direction and management to ensure the quality of processes and results of all Project activities;

• Provide overall management and oversight of the operational, technical, financial and administrative aspects of the Project;

• Act as a main point of contact with the donor and as the key liaison between the donor, the Cameroon Ministry of Health, project implementing partners and other key stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Project;

• Provide oversight to ensure that the Project monitors its progress and performance and achieves the Project benchmarks as per the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Plan;

• Direct the annual work planning and budgeting and reporting (quarterly and annually) process in accordance with USAID rules and regulations;

• Contribute to the knowledge management aspects of the Project, to include gathering and dissemination of lessons learned and best practices;

• Supervise all Project senior and key staff, and provide capacity building to Project staff as necessary;

• Ensure the Project has appropriate representation at high-level stakeholder meetings and national and/or regional malaria technical working groups;

• Ensure participatory and gender sensitive processes are promoted.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:

• Advanced degree in public health or other related field;

• At least 10 years of progressive experience managing malaria or other public health programs in Cameroon or in the region, including demonstrated financial and human resource management experience;

• Proven experience in managing complex projects of similar size ($25MM-$50MM), encompassing an expansive geographic area and activities that involve coordination with the government and other stakeholders at all levels of the health system);

• Demonstrated experience interacting and maintaining relationships with high-level stakeholders and host country government officials;

• Demonstrated leadership and experience in malaria programming, strategic planning, budgeting, management and supervision, monitoring and evaluation;

• Experience working with USAID and knowledge of USAID rules and regulations are preferred; • Strong management and problem solving skills;

• Proficient in the use of the standard Microsoft Office package with particular experience using Words, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer;

• Prior experience working in Cameroon is strongly preferred.

• Full professional proficiency in English and French;

• Priority will be given to qualified Cameroonian nationals.

Reporting to the Project Chief of Party (COP), the Technical Director will be responsible for technical oversight of project activities with a focus on continuous quality improvement and capacity strengthening in malaria prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance. He/she will work in close collaboration with national, province, and local government stakeholders, local and community organizations, and other partners to support a range of activities essential to malaria prevention and control in Cameroon.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provide technical leadership and oversight to strengthen capacity for malaria diagnosis and treatment, with a focus on the community level;

• Provide capacity‐building technical assistance to the NMCP in community malaria case management, including in the review and development of malaria program policy and strategy, developing case management tools, and participating in technical working groups;

• Provide technical support for training and supportive supervision of trained community health workers;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:

• Advanced degree in public health, infectious diseases, or related field required; clinical degree (MD, RN, etc.) preferred;

• At least 10 years of progressive experience implementing malaria or other public health programs in Cameroon or in the region, including at least 5 years of experience as a senior technical advisor/director in malaria programs with community-based interventions;

• Experience supporting service delivery quality improvement initiatives preferred;

• Demonstrated experience interacting and maintaining relationships with high‐level stakeholders and host country government officials;

• Demonstrated experience working effectively with project staff, implementing partners, civil society organizations, community leaders and local government authorities to implement and strengthen community and facility‐based malaria services;

• Experience working with USAID/PMI and knowledge of USAID rules and regulations are preferred;

• Strong management and problem solving skills;

MCI is currently seeking candidates to serve as the Director of Finance and Operations for the anticipated, five-year USAID-funded Cameroon President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Bilateral Project. The Director of Finance and Operations would be responsible for all Project operational, financial and sub-grants management, and for ensuring that financial operations are in compliance with USAID regulations.

This is a key position on the project team and is contingent upon award to MCD.

Essential Job Functions:

• Develop and implement financial and operational process improvement plans to improve value for money and efficiency;

• Responsible for ensuring that adequate financial management systems are in place and functioning;

• Work in close collaboration with the Chief of Party (COP) on all Project financial planning and management, and operations to ensure the achievement of expected Project results and objectives, and in compliance with USAID rules and regulations;

• Maintain transparent financial and reporting procedures and effective operation of financial controls;

• Assume responsibility for record-keeping, financial functions and internal control systems;

• Provide concise and timely financial reports that will give an overview of the financial status of the award;

• Manage Project start-up and close out, and support annual work planning and budgeting processes;

• Track and oversee personnel record keeping for MCD staff including time and attendance reporting, vacation and leave management;

• Ensure adequate safety and security protocols and services for project staff;

• Oversee project vehicle fleet management and maintenance;

• Ensure the IT infrastructure of the Project office is maintained and supported.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required:

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or a closely related field plus extensive professional experience; Master’s degree preferred;

• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in accounting and/or administrative roles with at least 8 years of experience as a senior finance and administration manager for donor-funded global health and/or international development projects;

• Demonstrated experience and skills in developing and managing large budgets ($25MM-$50MM);

• Demonstrated understanding of USAID administrative, management, and reporting policies, procedures and systems including 2CFR 200;

• Demonstrated experience in managing and supervising a team who is spread out geographically;

• Outstanding interpersonal skills and eager to work in a multicultural organization;

• Familiarity with Cameroon labor laws and regulations required;

• Expert computer skills in Microsoft Office and accounting software;

The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism is pleased to launch the Tuition-free Product Immersion program for journalists and staff inside small to midsize news organizations who have little to no experience with product development and management but have an interest in adopting a product approach.

Product Immersion for Small Newsrooms, an online, tuition-free training program for journalists by the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, welcomes three new cohorts in 2022-2023, thanks to the support by partners News Product Alliance (NPA) and the Google News Initiative. Applications open today for the first cohort, which will train 25 journalists from Europe, the Middle East and Africa from September to November, 2022.

  • The program  consists of two months of weekly online classes taught by leaders in product design and development from newsrooms around the world, and small-group coaching along the way.
  • This training is designed for journalists and staff inside small to midsize local newsrooms, who have little or no experience with product development and management but who are interested in taking a product approach to better serving the information needs of their audiences and finding new paths toward sustainability.
  • Students must commit to attending all live classes and small-group coaching sessions, and completing any other assignments. The training is FREE, in ENGLISH and accessible online via Zoom
Eligibility Criteria
  • The program is now accepting applications from journalists based in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (GMT 0 to +4) through July 15, 2022. To be considered for the program, applicants must submit the online application, which includes several short responses about the applicant’s familiarity with and interest in product development and a letter of newsroom commitment from the applicant’s organization.
  • In this new cycle, Product Immersion will serve three consecutive cohorts of 25 to 30 journalists; one in Europe/Africa/Middle East, one in Asia Pacific, and one in the Americas. Instruction will be in English and fluency in English is required.

The ARDF provides assistance to Cameroonian organizations that seek to implement short-term, highly targeted activities designed to show measurable results.

Program Objectives

  • Promote Accountable, Transparent, and Responsive Governance:
    • Support local civil society entities, including think tanks, academic research, watchdog groups, media associations, journalists, and other civil society actors to advocate for legislative transparency, accountability, and oversight at all levels of government.
    • Provide specialized, technical support to support democratic governance, with a particular focus on legislative oversight.
  • Promote Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms:
    • Support the protection, mitigation, and responses to human rights violations and abuses, in particular human rights violations affecting the most vulnerable, by strengthening human rights frameworks, institutions, and oversight.
    • Support to local, and key international, human rights organizations and institutions to promote human rights systems, policies, and protection, with particular focus on women and youth.
    • Strengthen the capacity of community-based organizations, including faith-based organizations; and resident, vendor, or other associations through civic education and citizen participation to advocate for democratic rights and norms that advance public involvement in civic life.
  • Support Democratic Processes and Promotion of Strong Democratic Norms:
    • Support to political processes, such as peace processes and negotiations, which seek long-term democratization and respect for human rights and accountability, with a particular focus on empowering women, youth, and marginalized and vulnerable populations.

  • Civic Education, Citizen Participation, and Public Accountability: 
    • Supports activities that advance citizen engagement to hold governments accountable and to participate in economic, political, governing, and other critical processes aimed at creating more peaceful, democratic, and pluralistic societies.
    • Promotes citizen engagement in local decision-making processes, such as through participatory budgeting processes and public-private dialogue for economic development priorities.
    • Examples of other activities include supporting civil society and citizen advocacy efforts; backing citizen monitoring and oversight initiatives; and strengthening citizen engagement in service delivery.
    • Activities in this category relate to the role of civil society in holding public institutions accountable (watchdog role).
  • Human Rights Systems and Policies and Protection:
    • Supports systems to prevent and address human rights violations through early warning, monitoring, investigating, and reporting.
    • Promotes respect for human rights and support human rights defenders through utilization of national, regional, and international legal systems for human rights protection and enforcement.
    • Harmonizes domestic laws and policies with international human rights standards; promote the adoption and implementation of human rights and labor standards; and
    • Sponsors legal aid and other assistance for victims of human rights violations.  Support the work of National Human Rights Commission(s).
    • Integrates human rights into training for security sector actors, teachers, civil society leaders, journalists, religious leaders, and government officials.

  • Have a funding ceiling of $50,000.

  • Are initiated by Cameroonian organizations (excluding the executive branch of the Cameroonian Government).
  • Promote political pluralism, respect for human and civil rights, citizen participation and public accountability.

Sanofi is pleased to partner with One Young World to offer the Future Women in Tech Scholarship.

This global program will enable five women leaders to participate in the One Young World Summit 2022 as part of Sanofi’s global delegation; have a fast-tracked opportunity to join Sanofi’s early careers program and receive 1:1 mentoring to support their first career steps in Sanofi.

What does the scholarship provide?
  • Delegate access to the One Young World Summit 2022 which takes place in Manchester, United Kingdom from 5 – 8 September.
  • Hotel accommodation in Manchester from 5 – 8 September.
  • Return travel to Manchester.
  • A fast-tracked opportunity to join Sanofi’s early careers program.
  • 1:1 mentorship from a Sanofi Digital mentor to support their career choices.
  • Membership of the One Young World Ambassador community.
Eligibility Criteria

You should apply for this programme if you:

  • Live in one of Sanofi’s operating countries.
  • Are a woman.
  • English speaking.
  • Have an undergraduate qualification related to information technology or data received within the last five years.
  • Are motivated to pursue a technology focussed career with Sanofi.
  • Are passionate about healthcare.
