Program Assistant – Health (Local Hire)

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support regional health team to ensure that all project activities (health, nutrition, mental health) are being implemented in accordance with agreed work plan and allocated resources at all IMC supported sites in the Northwest Region.
  • Track the progress of project activities against the agreed work plan and ensure budget and donor requirements and compliance.
  • Support monitoring of efficient use of medications procured under project funds and provide technical guidance and coordination of the procurement, storage and use of medication and medical commodities.
  • Supervise health activities implemented by PHCs and referral centers to ensure that IMC referred patients are managed according to Cameroon MOH protocols.
  • In collaboration with the Access officer, monitor the overall security and access environment for the smooth running of program activities.
  • Take part in field visits and follow up the field visits findings from health projects related activities being implemented at the regional level and address field implementation issues (technical and operational) with concerned departments.
  • Supervise staff performance and progress on IMCs mentorship and training processes.
  • Identify any issues that may adversely affect the project and report accordingly to the health manager, field coordinator or medical director.
  • Create and maintain good contact and networks with various stakeholders within and outside the project to ensure smooth running of all activities.
  • Contribute to preparing required reports such as weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports for health activities in accordance with the donor requirement, reporting mechanisms and deadlines.
  • Contribute to project proposal writing as well as concept note drafting to funders.
  • Follow up on effective presence of staff at health facilities and monitor all clinical activities for respect of ethics and IMC standards.
  • Ensure smooth progress of program/project indicators and suggest necessary amends to redirect indicator achievement.
  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Working relationships

  • Maintain frequent communication with the health manager to ensure health program activities and objectives are communicated.
  • Work with Finance and logistics team to ensure the coordination of IMC Field Programs are smoothly implemented.
  • Represent IMC at health and nutrition working group meetings and assessment missions at regional level.

Representation.

  • Represent IMC at meetings including regional coordination meetings, cluster meetings and meetings with various stakeholders.
  • Work with key donor staff to develop and maintain optimum programmatic relationship.
  • Ensure maximum visibility of the agency amongst NGO community.
  • Facilitate the production of technical reports and ensure the timeliness and accuracy of information provided, as well ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Contribute to the creation of positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of IMC’s mandate, ethics, values, and stand-point regarding other actors

Required Qualifications

Requirements:

Education:

Diploma of Midwifery or Nursing Diplomas from MOH- recognised institutions.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least two years’ experience in the same position;
  • Experience working with an NGO and supporting the health system in Cameroon, is an additional advantage;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and Pidgin English
  • Strong ability to think and plan strategically
  • Computer proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel is a prerequisite.
  • Being of Cameroonian nationality
  • Good ability to work in a multiethnic environment;

Ethical Conduct for IMC Staff
