About the role
The field support element of the programme supply chain team is responsible for developing and delivering a support mechanism to programme teams and Country offices, in the areas of supply chain management, good distribution practices, and compliance.
The priority output is safeguarding the beneficiaries of pharmaceutical products, which Sightsavers procure for programmes, against potential hazards arising from unprofessional and poor distribution practices, and ensuring the management of risk to Sightsaversâ reputation.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Understand the Sightsavers operating models and associated programme supply chain requirements, risk focused on engendering planning, Good Distribution Practice standards and best practice across the West Africa Country Offices.
- Develop a risk based, implementation training plan and priority visit/engagement schedule to reflect reginal director priorities and Country office supply chain risk profiles.
- Provide close and robust support to west Africa Country Offices, visit countries frequently to enhance performance and compliance, support, and build capacity of teams and partners.
- Assist the Country Offices with supplier sourcing analysis, qualification, and management.
- Supporting the Country offices with import permit and custom clearance requirements.
- Assist Country Offices with managing databases and spreadsheets as appropriate for the control of supplier documentation and supplier licencing, including supplier visits.
- Support operational quality assurance investigations led by supply chain management.
- Drive the process of continuous improvement.
- Work with the Controller Programme Supply Chain to develop and deliver an effective model for support to West Africa Country offices and programme teams in planning, procurement, and Supply Chain Management.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders as required.
- Monitoring of Supply Chain activities for data analysis, particularly for compliance with good distribution practice, country profiling focused on import permits and custom clearance, and planning yardsticks.
- Leading or supporting on investigations into the root cause of issues related to breaches in good distribution practice, such as temperature excursions.
- Preparing monthly field support reports, carrying out periodic self-inspections and providing performance reports that include observations, atmospherics and recommendations.

About you
The Regional Supply Chain Operations role is field based, alongside other Regional Roles, requiring a robust and responsive individual to deliver routine and reactive support to Country Offices in planning, procurement, and logistics, in the application of the PSC Quality Systems Management, and Good Distribution Practice standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Supply Chain or Logistics professional qualification.
- Demonstrable experience in a similar SCM role involving pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and warehousing in the international development sector.
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the work time as needed to support programme implementation.
- Fluency in French and English is essential to help support Country Offices in francophone West Africa to deliver a UK Charity driven effect.
- Experience of the NGO and international development environment.
- Experience of working directly with third party contractors and supplier management.
- Experience of WA regional and pan-African programmes.
- Ability to drive improvement and promote Sightsaversâ approach to NGO good distribution practice, both internally and externally of the organisation.
