ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

WFP Cameroon is part of the Country Offices in the Regional Bureau for Central and West Africa (RBD) facing multiple humanitarian crises that simultaneously aggravate existing socio-economic vulnerabilities in the country. The fragile security situation in the Northern part of the Country, a protracted refugee operation in the East and crises in the Northwest and Southwest regions has left millions of people vulnerable to food insecurity. WFP provides a key emergency response component of the Humanitarian Response Plan through regular food and sustainable development assistance to part of the food insecure and vulnerable people in the country. With the launch of the second-generation strategic plan, it is imperative to obtain the optimum capacity of staff, partners and beneficiaries given the precarious humanitarian situation and importance of delivering efficient and quick support. This role further described below, will contribute to the World Food Programme’s mission in Cameroon to Saving Lives, Changing Lives.

JOB PURPOSE

To perform general administrative and some specialised communications processes that support the creation of communications content and the delivery of communications services aimed at maintaining and enhancing WFP’s visibility and reputation and supporting fundraising activities.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable. Language: General Service (Headquarters): Fluency (level C) in English language. Fluency (level C) or intermediate knowledge (level B) of another official language may be required depending on the location of the post or area of responsibility.

Experience: Have 5 or more years of progressive responsible experience

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Support the development of communication plans for events and campaigns at the level of the field office and when necessary, the country office.

2. Monitor the use of communication materials and equipment, and provide support for special events, including video/film, photography and radio projects.

3. Support the weekly production and development of field office situation reports (Sitreps) by researching and providing data.

4. Monitor local and social media and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.

5. Under clear guidance, prepare content for traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages and standards. Ideally share with the country office daily tweet proposals and other social media content

6. Share guidelines and help WFP staff on the field as they collect or create content for WFP platforms.

7. Manage and maintain records and databases, such as journalist and media outlet contact lists, to ensure the information is accurate, organized and readily available for others to access. Media friendly list for Northwest region should be available by December 2023 and updated regularly.

8. Liaise with WFP staff and the media in a timely manner, to support aligned activities and an effective approach to communications within WFP.

9. Initiate, Support content collection missions for success stories, newsletter content development and other communication materials like factsheets, activity reports etc.

In immediate area of responsibility, provides support in developing written, visual, audio and multi-media content for communications materials and suggestions for improved communications processes. Sociopolitical Contextual Understanding Shows awareness of the multilateral/interagency environment and the dynamics in which WFP operates which informs approach to daily tasks. Communication Strategy and Planning Demonstrates sound understanding of WFP communications strategy and effectively implements tailored media and communications plans which support the delivery of the strategy.
